Somatic Therapy in Birmingham, Alabama
Therapy that supports both your mind and your nervous system
You may have a clear understanding of your experiences—why you feel the way you do, where patterns come from, what you “should” be able to do differently—and still find that something isn’t shifting.
Anxiety lingers & overwhelm returns. Certain situations feel disproportionately activating. You may notice tension in your body, difficulty relaxing, or a sense of being stuck in patterns that don’t fully respond to insight alone.
This is often because trauma and stress are not only cognitive; they are also physiological. The body and nervous system hold onto experiences in ways that thinking alone cannot always resolve.
At Nectar Therapy, I offer somatic therapy in Birmingham, Alabama & virtually for anyone located in Alabama as part of an integrative, trauma-informed approach. This work gently supports your nervous system in processing what has been held over time, allowing for change that feels more natural, more stable, and more lasting.
What Is Somatic Therapy?
Somatic therapy is a gentle body-based approach that focuses on how experiences are held in the nervous system. Rather than only talking about what has happened, we also pay attention to how your body responds in the present moment.
You might begin to notice subtle shifts in your breath, tension, posture, sensation and how these connect to your emotional experience. These cues offer important information about how your system has learned to respond to stress, overwhelm, or past experiences.
As a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner with advanced training in trauma therapy, I use a gentle, paced approach that supports your system in processing without becoming overwhelmed. This is not about reliving or intensifying your experience, but about creating enough safety and support for your body to begin to settle, reorganize, and integrate.
Somatic work is collaborative and deeply attuned.
We move at a pace that feels manageable, with careful attention to your capacity and comfort.
In our work together, we may:
Notice and track physical sensations in a grounded, supported way
Explore how your nervous system responds to stress or activation
Build awareness of patterns such as fight, flight, or shutdown
Develop tools for regulation and stabilization
Support the release and completion of held stress responses
Strengthen your ability to return to a sense of balance
There is no pressure to “go deeper” than your system is ready for. In fact, much of this work happens through small, meaningful shifts that build over time.
How Can Somatic Therapy Help You?
Somatic therapy can be especially helpful if you are experiencing:
Anxiety or chronic stress
Trauma or PTSD
Medical trauma or fear related to healthcare experiences
Emotional overwhelm or difficulty regulating
Burnout or persistent fatigue
Feeling disconnected from your body
Patterns that don’t shift despite insight or effort
You do not need to have a specific trauma history to benefit from this work. Many people come to somatic therapy simply noticing that something feels stuck or unresolved.
